"Aunt Jenny" Fort, wife of Henry Fort, a well-known cabinet maker. Mr. Fort was the first person of color to own a business in Garner. Mrs. Fort is pictured with the young Penny children.
The oldest home in the historic area of Garner, built in the 1820's. It stands within sight of the railroad tracks today. Note the separate kitchen next to the house. The home was known as the Avera-Broughton-Bryan House. The little girl on the tricycle is Lucille Bryan Stevens, who lived in the home well into her nineties.
